Doooo you know what today issss? It’s Good Friday and oh what a Good Friday it is! Good Friday is a significant day on the Christian calendar that marks the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. It is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday and is a day of solemn reflection for Christians around the world.
The origins of the name “Good Friday” are somewhat unclear, but one theory suggests that it was originally called “God’s Friday” and the name evolved over time. Regardless if this is true or not, Good Friday is a day of intense religious significance for Christians. It is a day of fasting, prayer, and penance as believers reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made for them.
The Story
The story of Good Friday begins with the Last Supper, where Jesus shared a final meal with His disciples. He then went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, where he was betrayed by Judas and arrested by Roman soldiers.
Jesus was then put on trial before the Roman governor Pontius Pilate, who found him guilty of sedition and sentenced him to death by crucifixion (wowsers). Jesus was then beaten, mocked, and forced to carry His own cross to the place of His execution. Most of us can barely carry our own weight around. Could you imagine?!
The Sacrifice
At Golgotha, they hung Him high, stretched Him wide and left Him to die. After several hours, He died and His body was taken down and buried in a tomb. He literally died for our sins before we, you and I, got here to even commit them. That’s wild, but I’m so glad He did. His death and resurrection are the cornerstone of our faith.
The Promise
Good Friday is not just a day off of work/school, it’s a very special day that reminds us that Jesus’ death was not in vain and that His sacrifice redeemed humanity. We know that because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we have the promise of eternal life. *inserts shout*
Good Friday is a day of great religious significance around the world. It is a day of mourning and reflection, but it is also a day of hope and promise. And guess what? There’s some good news coming, because that’s not where the story ends. Amen? Amen!
But for now,
That’s It. That’s All Yall.
