Alright, let’s talk gender reveals. Now, before we get started, let me just say that I’m not here to judge anyone’s choices. With the help of a couple of friends, hubby and I hosted a virtual reveal (thanks Covid) and had a great time. I am a supporter of doing a little something (or a big something) extra. So, if you want to have a gender reveal, go ahead and knock yourself out! Just don’t knock your baby out in the process.
Thanks to social media, gender reveals have become quite intense. Hubs and I are really into fitness, so we deadlifted ourselves into a sea of blue (that never quite came out of my shoes). Others are shooting confetti cannons, creating escape rooms, and even setting off fireworks. It’s like the Super Bowl, but with pink and blue.
Some people feel reveal parties are just an excuse to throw a big, over-the-top party and post it all over Instagram. I mean….so?!? If you do not like them, don’t go. It’s quite simple, but do not ruin the excitement of a pregnant woman. She’s going through enough already. Got it?! Good! I say, as long as you are safe, get ya party on. So if you’re with it, here’s a list of gender reveal themes/ideas you can get poppin.
Fitness
A fitness-based gender reveal is a unique and fun way to announce the gender of your baby while also getting in a little exercise. There are many different fitness activities that can be incorporated into a gender reveal, depending on your preferences and abilities. One option is to plan a group fitness class, such as a yoga, pilates, or dance class, and have the reveal take place at the end of the class.
Another option is to have a gender reveal balloon attached to you around your butt. Do some squats and try to pop the balloon. Think Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but with your butt and without the blindfold (unless you’re feeling feisty). Now, when you’re preggers, squats can get real taxing, real fast so you may need to tag your significant other in.
No matter which fitness activity you choose, it’s important to remember that safety should always be a top priority. Make sure to consult with your doctor before engaging in any strenuous physical activity, and choose activities that are appropriate for your fitness level and abilities.
Sports Theme
For little miss Sporty spice, you could have a gender reveal that involves kicking or throwing a ball. The color of the ball will reveal whether you’re having a boy or a girl! Get a friend you trust to keep the secret from you to open the envelope and Etsy and Amazon can supply your ball. One of the parents can toss/roll the ball and the other can hit/kick. Again, if you are the pitcher, be very carful.
Get a Pinata
Instead of a traditional reveal, why not fill a piñata with pink or blue confetti? Everyone gets to take turns whacking away until the big reveal! I mean, go ahead and have some signature drinks while you’re at it and make it a par-tay. Something tasty, something new, something pink, something blue. Just make sure to have a mocktail version for mommy.
Bun in the Oven
If you’re into puns, this one’s for you. Bake some cupcakes or buns with colored frosting inside, and let your guests bite into them to find out the gender. You want to be surprised too? Give the envelope to a baker (or a friend who knows their way around a mixer) and have them bake them up for you.
Paint Party
This one is messy but fun! Fill water guns with paint and have everyone wear white. Then, count down and have a paint fight! The color of the paint will reveal whether it’s a boy or girl. Another idea is to have baby daddy wear while and you aim your water gun at him for the reveal. Ya know, keep it spicy. It won’t be the last time you get messy, you do have a baby coming after all.
Sweet surprise
Feeling lucky? Let’s play cupcake roulette. Have a platter of vanilla cupcakes, but have one lucky cupcake filled with either pink or blue frosting. You and your guests can take turns choosing a cupcake until the gender is revealed. This is such a yummy way to be surprised.
Time goes by so quickly once your baby gets here so after you know the gender, you can go ahead and plan the first birthday party lol. Seriously though, time does move swiftly, so take your time and take in all the moments. But when you’re ready to plan that party, I’ve got you covered here.
Gender reveals can be fun and exciting, but they can also be a bit ridiculous. If you live for the ridiculousness, go all out. If you’d rather spend your time eating cake and talking about baby names without all the fanfare, that’s okay too. If you want to wait until your baby is born and find out the old-fashioned way, go for it. No matter which option you choose, remember that the most important thing is that you remain healthy, safe and deliver that beautiful bundle of joy.
That’s It. That’s All Yall.
